- Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Joe Czerwinski: „Hints of mint or menthol mark the nose of the 2017 The Armagh Shiraz. There's a pinch of crushed green peppercorns, buffered by ripe raspberries and cherries. Like the 2016, it's more red-fruited, but it doesn't have quite the depth or richness of that vintage. At this level, it's splitting hairs, as the wine is still excellent, with ample weight and concentration, supple tannins and a lingering, spice-tinged finish.“

- VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: „The 2017 Syrah Armagh Vineyard is heady and exotic from the very first taste. Super-ripe dark cherry, red plum, pomegranate, game, licorice, incense, blood orange, spice and smoke infuse the 2017 with tremendous character to match its flamboyant, unctuous personality. In the glass, the 2017 is wild, with quite a bit of stem influence from the 100% whole clusters, and yet all the elements work so well together. Bright floral and savory notes punctuate the finish.“

- JANCIS ROBINSON: „Deep crimson. Sweet and salty nose. Still a little oak in evidence here (perhaps we just have to wait…), but it's basically well constituted with something a little buttery about it. A welcome change from some over-demanding South Australian Shirazes too high in acid and/or tannin. It needs time to fill out the middle palate.“

- 95 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: „This is a cooler vintage for Armagh and has vibrant blueberries, violets and floral spices with a redder-fruit spectrum leading the nose. The palate has a lithe, juicy feel and the oak sits in a gently creamy layer of redder plum and berry flavors. An elegant, athletic Armagh and one that trades on acidity and more medium-weight tannin structure. Try from 2025. Screw cap.“

Notizen des Weinguts: The name of ‘Armagh’ was bestowed by the original Irish settlers who arrived in 1849 and named the lush, rolling hills after their homeland. In 1968 the vineyard was planted by Jim Barry and yields less than two tonnes per acre. The soil is sandy gravel and receives an average rainfall of 600mm per year. The vineyard lies on a north-west facing slope which acts as a natural sun trap. Wine has been flowing in the Clare Valley since 1851 and is an integral part of the culture. It is one of Australia’s most prestigious premium wine regions, most famous for its Riesling and Shiraz. A small area, accounting for less than 1.5% of Australia’s total wine production. With its beautiful, rolling hills, ideal winter rainfall and Mediteranean climate, the Clare Valley carries a unique history and winemaking heritage.
