Notizen des Weinguts: Located at the foot of the main hillside west of Saint-Émilion, Château Pindefleurs’ 17 hectare (41.65 acres) vineyard is planted with 35-year-old Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines on gravel, clay and sand. The estate enjoys modern viticulture techniques, such as cover cropping, green harvesting and leaf thinning, followed by gentle macerations in the cellar, frequent pump-overs, and traditional vertical pressing. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels. The owner, Madame Dominique Lauret-Mestreguilhem, believes that finding a balance between a traditional philosophy and modern techniques is the key to the harmony found in her wines. The vineyard’s name, which translates to “Flower Pine,” is particularly wellsuited to the wine’s floral bouquet and charming body. Powerful yet delicate, deep yet refined, Château Pindefleurs can be enjoyed young, for the wine’s fresh, bright fruit, or cellared for a few years to reveal the length and elegance characteristic of the wines of Saint-Émilion. 2021 Vintage The 2021 vintage demanded careful attention throughout the year, but the challenge united the vigneronnes and vignerons who produced, thanks to their efforts, a crop of good quality. Fastidious vineyard work, a gentle approach in the cellar, attention to detail and judicious decision-making were key in producing charming, delicate, elegant wines. The rainy and mild winter brought on an early and uneven budbreak. This early development put the young buds at risk of a spring frost, such as the one that occured during the nights of the 6th and 7th of April, when temperatures dropped to -3 and -4°C, but the vineyard of Château Pindefleurs was spared. Flowering unfolded very nicely at the end of May, but the heterogeneity from budbreak persisted. June and July were mostly gloomy with a few gorgeous hot and sunny episodes in the middle of each month. Veraison occurred slowly. August was dry and nearly caught up the summer’s lack of sunshine. Over the summer, vineyard work (green harvesting, leaf-plucking, secondary shoot removal...) helped to even out ripeness among the grape clusters. Harvest took place from September 23rd to October 4th under favorable conditions, with optimal maturity reached on most parcels.
