Enticingly high acidity here, really so bright on the initial impact settling to reveal a chalky redcurrant, blackberry and plum centre with such fine and integrated tannins. Smooth and sleek, this has a gently round body with a delicate and easy-drinking appeal and soft florality that I love. Super-fresh and vibrant, the acidity is so perfectly judged with the bramble fruits and lifted, cooling, minty finish. A beautiful glass of wine. Could easily drink this soon. Succulent and supple, this is refined and just easy to like. Drinking Window 2024 – 2036“

- 92 Punkte JANE ANSON: „A 7ha vineyard on clay-limestone, this is always a name that I look out for, and it has delivered again in 2021, while not shying away from the character of the vintage. You'll find a creamy sweetness to the blackberry fruits on the opening beats, but the woodsmoke reduction and steely minerality close things up pretty fast as the pumice-stone limestone steps up. This is worth looking out for, everything in place for softening over ageing, sculpted and cool. Harvest October 4 to October 10.“

Notizen des Weinguts: This 7 hectare vineyard is situated along the edge of Saint-Émilion’s famous limestone terrace, just a few dozen meters from the center of this medieval town. The vineyard is planted on a south-facing limestone plateau (hence its name, “the greenhouse”) covered with a thin layer of clay and averages 35 years of age. M. d’Arfeuille, the estate’s passionate owner, favors a traditional approach in both the vineyard and the winery and his methods ensure that this exceptional terroir is perfectly expressed in his wines. The soil is tilled manually to avoid the use of herbicides, and vineyard work is kept to the minimum to allow the vineyard’s natural character to shine through. Traditional interventions such as pruning and disbudding suffice to control yields. In the cellar, pre-fermentary cold maceration and optical sorting allow only the purest expression of this privileged terroir. M. d’Arfeuille and his team seek balance in all aspects of winemaking, pursuing the legendary elegance of the wines that have been produced on this historic land for centuries. The wines of Château La Serre are deep and generous with a streak of minerality. 2021 Vintage The 2021 vintage demanded careful attention throughout the year, but the challenge united the vigneronnes and vignerons who produced, thanks to their efforts, a crop of good quality. Fastidious vineyard work, a gentle approach in the cellar, attention to detail and judicious decision-making were key in producing charming, delicate, elegant wines. The rainy and mild winter brought on an early and uneven budbreak. This early development put the young buds at risk of a spring frost, such as the one that occured during the nights of the 6th and 7th of April, when temperatures dropped to -3 and -4°C, but the vineyard of Château La Serre was spared. Flowering unfolded very nicely at the end of May, but the heterogeneity from budbreak persisted. June and July were mostly gloomy with a few gorgeous hot and sunny episodes in the middle of each month. Veraison occurred slowly. August was dry and nearly caught up the summer’s lack of sunshine. Over the summer, vineyard work (green harvesting, leaf-plucking, secondary shoot removal...) helped to even out ripeness among the grape clusters. Harvest took place from October 4th to 10th under favorable conditions, with optimal maturity reached on most parcels.
